This is a really simple device and that is exactly why I like it. It is light, it is effective, and unlike the connection balls that hang off a lanyard, it just stays where you put it. The Velcro on it is mega – you pop it on and off in seconds – and because you strap it straight to your forearm there is none of that annoying business where the ball drops out mid-swing.
Because it inflates and deflates, you can match it to the gap between your arms and dial in the resistance: pump it up for more, let a little out for a softer feel. That also means you can place it pretty much anywhere on the arm you like. My favourite use is popping it on the right forearm with the ball facing the golf ball – instead of a pure connection ball it then becomes a brilliant width drill, stopping the trail arm from bending. It works for putting and chipping too, so you get real versatility out of one aid.
Compared to the balls that use a lanyard – the Sure Golf Connector, the Tour Striker Smart Ball, or the Impact Ball – those can still fall out and get a bit awkward. The TRS Ball just sits there. It is also seriously well made: the cheap copies you find on Amazon tend to pop or last about two minutes, whereas this one is built to last. That durability, plus the price with the discount code, is why it is my go-to recommendation when I reach for a connection aid in lessons.
On value, a lot of these aids – like the excellent grooved ProSENDR Connection Sphere – are getting on for two to three times the price. The ProSENDR groove is genuinely a touch better if that feel matters to you, but whether it is worth the extra is your call. For a solid, durable connection ball that does the job without the premium price tag, the TRS Ball is hard to beat.
