This is one of the best aids I've found for a golfer who flips the club and can't feel forward shaft lean. The click on the backswing gives you the wrist set, then it holds you in that extended, shaft-forward position so you physically can't scoop. I love it for chipping, and I use it as the first thing in a lesson to get the feeling, then move to the ProSENDR Wrist Cradle for more freedom. It's not perfect — fiddly to fit and it holds extension a touch long into the finish — but the ball joint keeps it from feeling robotic and the feedback is genuinely useful. If you like being forced into position, this is phenomenal; if you want more freedom, look at the ProSENDR. Or, honestly, run both.

Tested by PGA coach Ross Eves, the Precision Impact is a trail-wrist impact training aid that costs $149.99 (often on offer at $124.99; around £118 for UK buyers). It's a small device that straps to your trail wrist and forearm. As you take the club back it clicks as you set the wrist and extend into the top of the backswing — and then it won't let you flip the club coming down. It physically holds you in that extended, shaft-forward position through impact and into the follow-through.

It's also quietly well thought of at the very top of the game. I understand from people inside Pete Cowen's camp that this is a training aid he uses — though Pete being Pete, he keeps clear of publicly endorsing anything, so you won't see his name stamped on the box. If a Pete Cowen training aid is what you're hunting for, this is one worth knowing about.

I use this a lot with golfers who flip the club — the ones with no forward shaft lean who scoop and try to lift the ball into the air. The golf swing happens so fast that it's genuinely hard to feel trail-wrist extension, and because most golfers are right-handed, training that trail wrist directly is exactly what this does. The audible click gives you the wrist set, which in turn puts the shoulder in a better position at the top.

Personally I set the club early — click, click, click in the backswing — and then in the downswing I press the back of my right hand into the Precision Impact. That feeling shallows the club, squares the face and gets me into a stronger, more covered position at impact. It's brilliant for chipping too: a simple "click, click, go" that trains clean contact.

In a lesson I'll often use it as the first thing to get the feeling, then switch to something like the ProSENDR Wrist Cradle, which trains the same idea but without forcing you into position. The two work really well together.

There's clearly a lot of thought in it — it feels solid, and importantly there's a ball joint so it isn't a rigid, binary yes/no. It allows some movement, which stops it feeling robotic.

It's not flawless. It can be fiddly to put on, and there's a fair argument that aids which force you into position aren't for everyone — you don't get to fight against it and build your own awareness. It also holds that trail-wrist extension through the follow-through, where you'd usually want a bit of freedom into the finish. And if, like me, you like a practice waggle, you'll find yourself unclicking it at the top of the forearm.

Pros

Cons

  • Forces the correct impact position — no flipping, real forward shaft lean

  • Audible click trains the wrist set in the backswing so you actually feel it

  • Ball joint allows some movement — not a rigid, binary yes/no aid

  • Brilliant for chipping — simple "click, click, go" feedback for clean contact

  • Ideal for scoopers who've never felt trail-wrist extension

  • Solid, thoughtful build quality

  • Works for every club — full swing down to the short game

  • Fiddly to put on

  • Forces you into position — some coaches and players prefer an aid they can fight against

  • Holds trail-wrist extension through the follow-through, where you'd normally want freedom into the finish

  • Awkward if you like a practice waggle — you have to unclick it at the top of the forearm

  • Won't suit golfers who want to build their own feel rather than be locked into a position

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What does the Precision Impact actually do?

It straps to your trail wrist and forearm, clicks as you set the wrist in the backswing, then holds you in an extended, shaft-forward position so you physically can't flip the club through impact.

Who is the Precision Impact for?

Golfers who struggle with their impact position, players who get steep and need to shallow the club out, and anyone who can't feel the right trail-arm position at the top of the backswing. If you flip or scoop the club with no forward shaft lean, this is aimed squarely at you.

Does Pete Cowen use the Precision Impact?

From what I understand within his camp, yes — it's a wrist trainer he uses. Pete doesn't publicly endorse products, so treat that as coaching-circle knowledge rather than an official endorsement, but it tells you the design stands up at the highest level.

Is the Precision Impact any good for chipping?

Yes — it's one of my favourite uses for it. The "click, click, go" feedback trains clean, ball-first contact and stops the scoop.

Precision Impact or the ProSENDR Wrist Cradle?

Both are excellent. The Precision Impact forces you into position, which is ideal if you've never felt it; the ProSENDR Wrist Cradle gives you more freedom. I use them together — start with this, then progress to the cradle.

Is the Precision Impact available for left-handed golfers?

Yes — it comes in both right-handed and left-handed versions, so pick the one that matches your swing.

Is there a Precision Impact discount code?

Yes — use code ROSSEVES at Pure Swing Products to save on your order.

Who should skip the Precision Impact?

If you prefer training aids you can work against to build your own feel, or you don't like being locked into a position, this may not suit you. It can also be fiddly to put on and holds wrist extension into the follow-through.
